Google Maps v8.xx unusable on HD2?

Postby vincero » Tue Sep 30, 2014 2:58 pm

Hi all,
Finally updated the HD2 from Jelly Bean to KitKat, but have found that Google Maps has eventually become unusable. It is slide-show slow.
Granted, the HD2 is pretty old now in terms of cpu and gpu power, and even simple games like 'the simpsons tapped out' pose a bit of a struggle for it, however I wouldn't have thought Google Maps is a killer program.

I found that even in Jelly Bean ROMs, upgrading from 7.x versions to 8 would result in Google Maps being very slow, so solution was simply dont update. As version 8 is integrated into the KK ROM its now an unavoidable issue.

I've tried adjusting the HWA settings for Maps however it usually results in just a flashing screen or black screen.

Searched on the forum previously but there are so many threads returned with 'Maps' due to the frequent update threads, etc.

Any solution / ideas?
Or is the Maps app starting to overtake the HD2?
