As far as I can say yes that was a hardware issue as my phone is working perfect with this method. May be other people who had their phone repaired can confirm if this works for them.

This's a reply to walter79's PM request about the patch of auto gsm network selection on CM 10.2.
Commits:

• Work around for invalid AppType on legacy gsm devices
• RIL: fix signal for legacy gsm devices

Credits:

• Andrew Sutherland for the original patches for EV AOSP code.
• And tytung for finding out only these two commits are necessary for the CM code.

Device: European HD2 (WM), SDHC Transcend UHS-I, NativeSD mode, installed in 4EXT Recovery.
tomtom 1.2 (Europe) crashes quite often. Worked fine on MIUI (4.1) NativeSD on the same device/card

Well, mobile data was not working on Android 4.3.1 (CM 10.2) when I built a ROM several days ago.
I checked several legacy devices development threads at xda, and it seems that they all have the same bug: data sometimes works, not always.
Until data is fixed, I have no plan to release an Android 4.3.1 ROM.

As I said before, I have tried to update the kernel, but was not successful so far.
I will let it as a known limitation until I find out any new method.
