I believe this is due to different sensor hardware in some LEO1024's. Having researched this and trying everything within my knowledge, I'm still here scratching my head.
The sensor works on WinMo by the way, so the hardware isn't at fault, just unaccounted for. Auto-rotation is the only thing that doesn't work.
Are there different accelerometer drivers I could try? I am prepared to troubleshoot this with instruction, I know the in's and out's of Android pretty well.
Any help/ideas would be greatly appreciated, cheers.

Tytung,
You were right. The problem is related to the commit you cited. I found that prior to this commit (ie v2.4 of your ROM), the date didn't show at all on the lock screen. That is why no one has ever noticed this problem before. Originally the time was being drawn at 70dip and was big enough to completely push the date outside the frame. The commit changed the time font size to 64dip for hdpi devices like the HD2. The reduction in time font size was enough to let the date be partially drawn inside the frame. But it wasn't enough to let the date be completely shown. I changed the time font size to 62dip and now the date shows completely.
A flashable ZIP to fix the problem can be found at: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/22856583/NexusHD2-JB_V2.5-LockClockFix.zip.
EDIT - By the way, I reported the problem on the CyanogenMod issue tracker.

FWIW, there should be no issue flashing v2.5 over an existing v2.4.
